How to Talk with Ellie & Ember
Learn the right timing and cues for smooth conversations.
This guide shows how to chat naturally with your magical friends, including wake words, pacing, and standby commands.
Overview
Ellie and Ember are designed to feel like real companions who listen and reply in natural rhythm.
To make conversations flow smoothly, it’s important to understand their listening cues and timing. This guide explains how to wake them up, talk at the right moment, interrupt when needed, and help them go to sleep when you’re done.
Talking with Ellie & Ember
Step-by-Step

Step 2: Wait for the Beep
After Ellie or Ember finishes speaking, you’ll hear a soft beep.
That sound means it’s your turn to talk.
Speak clearly and naturally—there’s no need to say “Hi Ellie” or “Hi Ember” again unless they’ve gone silent for a while.
Tip: If you talk before the beep, they won’t catch your words. Just wait for the beep and try again.

Step 4: Ending a Conversation
If you’re done talking, you can ask them to stop or go into Standby Mode.
To stop talking:
Say any of these commands when Ellie or Ember are listening:
- “Stop please.”
- “Stop talking.”
- “Never mind.”
- “Be quiet.”
They’ll stop speaking and return to Idle Mode, ready for the next time you call them.
To put them to sleep (Standby Mode):
Say any of these commands:
- “Good night.”
- “Go to sleep.”
- “See you again.”
- “Turn off.”
Or, hold the Volume Down (-) button for about 6 seconds to manually put the device into Standby. The hologram will fade out and the lights will turn off.
Video Tutorial
On your Imagix Crystal Ball, press and hold both Volume (–) and Volume (+) buttons together for about 6 seconds until the LEDs begin flashing—this puts the device into Pairing Mode.
If you accidentally activate Pairing Mode, simply press and hold the Volume (+) and Volume (–) buttons together again for a few seconds to cancel and return your Imagix to normal operation.
Tips for Natural Conversations
- Wait for the beep before you speak—it’s the best sign they’re listening.
- Keep the Crystal Ball within a few feet so Ellie and Ember can hear you clearly.
- If you’re ever unsure what state they’re in, press the Action Button once—they’ll respond and be ready to listen.
- You can always say “Hi Ellie” or “Hey Ember” again to re-engage.
Troubleshooting
If Ellie or Ember doesn’t respond:
- Make sure you’re waiting for the beep.
- Try pressing the Action Button to reset listening mode.
- Check that the room is quiet—background noise can affect listening.
- If they remain unresponsive, unplug and plug the device back in.
